Installation of rooftop common frame support for Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) services at a Singapore data centre.

Published on: 17 July 2024

Needs
Client is studying ways to install MEP services on rooftop using non-penetrative solutions to save time and increase productivity.

Challenges

The roof top slab of the data centre has a layer of waterproofing membrane to prevent water leakage into the building though the slab. Any attempt to drill into the slab to build a steel / reinforced concrete support will require tremendous effort and shall waste precious time. The outdoor environment of Singapore weather proved too be demanding too.

Solutions

Our team studied the feasibility of the matter and consulted with our Professional Engineer to design a non-penetrative frame system to support the MEP services.

Using Walraven Strut Chanel with consist of 41×41 struts, 41 double clinching struts, and 41×82 struts, alongside Walraven Yeti feet and Ursus feet support system, coupled with Walraven fixing system and Walraven Bis Ultra Protect 1000 material (1000 hours salt spray test), we designed and developed a frame support capable of carrying load of specified MEP services and capable withstanding Singapore demanding weather.

We managed to design, fabricate, deliver and install 267 multi-tier frames, while saving time using different teams for fabrication and installation, and finishing the project in 1 month. The frame system on the rooftop now supports almost 23.3km routing of MEP services.
