Walraven BIS UltraProtect® 1000 sustainable surface protection
Walraven BIS UltraProtect® 1000 (or BUP 1000) offers advanced corrosion protection for M&E support systems indoors or outdoors in up to C4 environments. This unique surface protection is available on many Walraven systems as standard. It delivers superior corrosion protection compared to hot dip galvanisation as well as a sustainable advantage.
The benefits of BUP 1000:
- Withstands at least 1000 hours of salt spray test
- Suitable for C1-C4 environments (ISO12944-2)
- A sustainable production process uses up to 55% less resources than the hot dip galvanising process
- The finish is smooth and visually appealing
- Suitable for use in data centres (unlikely to result in zinc whisker growth)

Superior corrosion resistance delivered sustainably
Walraven BIS UltraProtect® 1000 utilises a more sustainable production process than hot-dip galvanising, including:
- Seven times less energy use
- No use of tap water
- Own water cleaning system
- Emission of cleaned air
- Up to 55% less resources used

The alternative to hot-dip galvanising
The products protected with the Walraven BIS UltraProtect® 1000 system have high corrosion resistance. Effortlessly, they withstand a salt spray test of at least 1000 hours (according to ISO 9227), whereas hot-dip galvanised products normally withstand only between 300-600 hours.
Despite a relatively thin protective layer, the corrosion resistance is high. Products coated with the Walraven BIS UltraProtect® 1000 system have a smooth, beautiful finish and can be used in industrial applications where aesthetics are important. An additional advantage of the relatively thin protective layer is that products with threaded holes or rods are also well protected against corrosion.

Installation tips
To protect the performance of the system, it’s important to design your installation in line with the warranty terms and installation guidance below where possible.

Design the system in such a way that there is no possibility of water or waste – organic or otherwise – stagnating around metal Walraven BIS UltraProtect® 1000 products. Use, for example, Walraven rooftop support feet to lift the Walraven BIS UltraProtect® 1000 System off the ground/installation surface.

To make sure water runs off freely, place the Walraven BIS UltraProtect® 1000 parts at an angle of at least 2°.

Because the Walraven RapidStrut® channel DS 5 has self-repairing properties, you can cut the channel to length to meet your needs. The cut edges remain protected against corrosion. We strongly advise that you do not cut the Walraven RapidStrut® Cantilever Arm as this will leave the cut edges unprotected.

Fit the channel or cantilever arm with a Walraven RapidStrut Rail End Cap for a clean finish at the channel end and to cover any burrs. To prevent the accumulation of dirt inside the rail, use the Walraven RapidStrut® PVC Profile to close the slot (when fitted on top).

To comply with the warranty terms and conditions*, use only Walraven BIS UltraProtect® 1000 (BUP100) products within the installation. Combining BUP100 products with other metals may reduce the system lifespan and can lead to galvanic corrosion. Do not combine Walraven BIS UltraProtect® 1000 products with aluminium, stainless steel, copper, or untreated steel.
