Our client is an Irish offsite fabrication specialist delivering large scale prefabricated MEP solutions. They required a large number of split bands for their prefab skid modules destined for data centre projects in the UK, Ireland and Europe.
Multiple orders have so far seen over 26,000 Walraven Split Bands manufactured, in a range of sizes, for the prefabricated skid modules.
As they were being used for data centres, a HDG finish was used to reduce the risk of zinc whiskers. These can occur more readily on a standard electroplated zinc finish, and are thought to interfere with the equipment.
The client requested a robust quality control process with additional checks on the HDG finish, as well as full traceability of the steel.
To deliver the exacting requirements of the client, Walraven manufactured all of the split bands in house at our Banbury factory.
This allowed us to ensure full quality control over the whole process. A series of checks were implemented at the start, middle and end of every batch made to ensure all the technical criteria were met.
Additional quality checks on the HDG coating were implemented to ensure there were no hairline cracks or imperfections compromising the integrity of the finish.
